I have not read &quot;The Spiration of Scripture&quot; but I saw a hostile review by Martin Downes at www.reformation21.org.

One argument was that one would have to give up on infant baptism as well as inerrancy since both are &quot;by good and necessary consequence deduced from Scripture&quot; rather than directly taught.  As an Anabaptist I felt I liked McGowen already!

It seems to me that &quot;necessary deductions&quot; are much more subjective than many of the Reformed would like to admit.

I will not admit errors in the sense that I believe every word in scripture is willed and spoken by the good God.  But I do not think he purposed to provide data for our scientific or historiographic projects.</description>

		<description>I agree with you.  Creationism has become a test of orthodoxy among conservative evangelicals, along with anti-women elders and inerrancy.  On this last topic, I rejoiced to read McGowen&#039;s book The Spiration of Scripture.</description>
